If you're like me...

If you are like me you might have spent days or weeks trying to find the perfect blog that told all the secrets to passing the CPA exam. I couldn't find one. And let me make this clear now that this will not be one either. I hope this blog will be a place where I can communicate how I study or what works for me and find out what worked for others too. With a few comments on my adventures in shopping for office supplies (of course!). If you are in the accounting field you probably have an unhealthy habit of using and abusing pens, pencils, post-its, and paper clips. (By the way I wasn't trying to be funny with all the P's...those are my favorite things.) You may or may not be very protective of your Red swingline stapler. And if you're really bad, you buy your own office supplies to bring to work because those cheap bastards don't get anything good enough for you. Not like I do any of that.

Back to studying for the CPA exam. I have started this week. I am using Becker CPA review online course, and so far I love it!!! Everyone I have known in this profession and with a CPA designation has used Becker, and most passed on their first try. I will be taking Financial first, which some say is the hardest, and I like to get the hardest out of the way first.

I will try to post on here a few times a week, with struggles, study tips, success stories, etc. Feel free to comment with your experience. And together we can pass this mother!!!

Ok that sounded really lame and cheesy.

Oh and by the way, I'm Nicole, 25 from Seattle, WA. And I'm addicted to office supplies :(

GOOD LUCK ! you'll need it. I took the FAR 1st and got a 56. I just took Reg 3 weeks ago. I love my office supplies. I just some cute animal shape paper clips. Yes im and accountant. I am also taking the Becker Online. I took the live classes for FAR and didnt like it. What i did wrong be fore is..i didn't read the book. My becker teacher kept talking about questions questions questions which didnt work for me. So what I have been doing is. Watch the CD,read the chapter, do the questions, review the chapter again. Thats the only way it sticks for me. Other than that you just got to put the time in. For my first test i was doing 30min to 1 hour here and there but you really need to put the hours in. So now I wake up early study 2 hours before work and 2 hours after work. I love starbucks now. I I take BEC in a few weeks. I'll keep reading your blog,GOOD LUCK !

Becker is a great review course to take. Smart for getting Financial out of the way first. Just try to relax, leave enough time for the simulations, and don't get too hung up on any one of the questions. If you know your stuff and a curveball comes along then everyone else is feeling the same. It could even be a "test" question. Keep at it and get it out of the way. On a lighter note, studying for the CPA didn't take all of my time - it can be done and you can still have a life...I promise!!! I wish you all the best!!

Nicole...FAR is not the hardest part of the exam - it just has the most content, 9 sections in the Becker book. The most difficult for me was BEC.

I'm on my 2nd time through because I DID NOT STUDY! Like Lizell, I only studied here and there, so I only passed REG the first time through. Now, I'm up at 4:30am to study until 8:30am, then work from 10-6. I have about 2 hours of free time in the evening, which I can spend with my fiance before my early bedtime of 9pm. I often use that time to review my textbook or flashcards. Good luck!

Nicole,

Welcome to the blogosphere and the adventure of pursuing licensure!! Boy do you have some FUN ahead of you :P

Should you have any questions or concerns going forward, you're welcome to get in touch for guidance - I work for "that other CPA Review course" which is not the one you're taking but I believe in advancing the industry as a whole and know that candidates need all the support they can get no matter what.

Oh, and there IS no shortcut. Trust me, we looked (we realized if we found one, we'd be able to charge $152,524,734 for it!) and even sent out a team of rogue CPA exam experts to hunt it down. Alas, like the Fountain of Youth, it is but a myth. :(

Best of luck to you on your journey and I swear there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Oh, and there are also LOTS of office supplies when you get there!!

Adrienne

p.s. sorry I'm totally late on this comment, I just happened to find you through Accounting Elf today. I really need to pay better attention :P
